Mogadishu – (UM) Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire chaired the weekly IMF Staff Monitored Program (SMP) meeting at the Ministry of Finance today. The Prime Minister listened to updates on the progress of the implementation of the SMP from senior Ministry officials in the areas of revenue, budget and general procedural reform in disbursing finances transparently.
Having listened to the SMP updates from the Minister of Finance Dr. Beileh and the Ministry staff, the Prime Minister said that it was a must that the program must be completed fully.
The IMF is working closely with the Somali Government on directing SMP 3 which is meant to strengthen Somali institutional performance and financial and economic management. The hope, according to the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance is that if the SMP3 is completed successfully it would lead to debt relief and more financial support for Somalia’s development.
