President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the Suakin Island on the west coast of the Red Sea as part of his official programme in Sudan.

President Erdoğan was welcomed by his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir in Port Sudan, from where they proceeded to the Suakin Island.

Greeting the citizens waiting along the route with Turkish and Sudanese flags in their hands, President Erdoğan visited Al-Hanafi Mosque, Al-Shafei Mosque and an old customs building, which were restored by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), in the island.

At the old customs building, businesspeople from the two countries signed a cooperation agreement in the presence of the two leaders and President Erdoğan, afterward, was presented with 250-year-old Ottoman money.
